First Quarter Virtue is Self-Control
What a surprise this morning to discover that we had no water! Little did I suspect that I would have our first “snow day” on the hottest day of the year! The Fast Direct broadcast system worked well with only a very few parents dropping off their children. We updated our files and now have everyone on our texting system! It’s late morning and the water is back on but we are on a boil water advisory. Everything will be back to normal on Monday.
Our first Home and School Meeting is on Monday, August 25. We will meet in the Parish Center for the meeting portion. This will be followed by classroom presentations in the classrooms with the exception of the Middle School. The Middle School teachers will remain in the parish center to give their presentations together. If you have children in Middle School and in the lower grades please attend the Middle School presentation first. By each classroom door you will find the sign-up sheet for Parent-Teacher conferences on October 30-31. Please select your time tonight! Thanks!
Although our children seem to be far removed from the events of the Ferguson tragedy, the media brings it ever so close to us. At school we are doing our business as usual but we are praying for the community of Ferguson and for peace. The children have been praying the rosary in their classrooms. We hope and pray for a peaceful and just resolution.
Last year the Archdiocese conducted a safety audit at St. Theodore School. Results of this audit can be seen throughout the building. Numbers have been placed on all outside doors so first responders can easily identify them. Blinds have been installed in Kindergarten through fifth 5 grade, while safety film has been added to the cafeteria door and windows and the kindergarten outside door and bottom windows on the parking lot side. Safety film was also added to the Middle School classroom doors for extra security.
As you know, we have been ordering desks and chairs for the children as we acquired the funds. We have completed grades 5-8 as of this summer. Much to our delight another Catholic School is getting rid of similar desks and offered them for FREE! We will be receiving them by the beginning of September and we will be able to furnish the rest of the classrooms, grades 1-4. It’s nearly Christmas in July!!
We will see you at the Home and School Back-to-School night!
Have a blessed week-end!
